Step 8 - Storing Your Portfolio

Although there are other storage devices, these are the easiest for an audience to access.

Your final electronic portfolio can exist in two locations.

  • On a CD or DVD
  • On a Web server

CD or DVD - Is an excellent medium for storing your final portfolio, as well as for backing up your files. They are inexpensive, have large capacity and have long term reliability. A CD-R or DVD-R (recordable) cannot be erased or changed. A CD-RW or DVD-RW (rewritable) can be be erased and re-recorded over and over. You should have a back up of your portfolio on one or more CDs or DVDs. The recording process is not as easy or as convenient as using other storage devices, so you may want to save to your computer's hard disk for day-to-day working storage needs.

Web Server - Publishing your electronic portfolio to a Web server is also a great option. It allows easy access to your portfolio by any computer with Internet access, and there are no disks or CDs that can be lost.

There are a few websites that give you free storage space on their servers and are accessible via the Internet. You may wish to check out Portfolio Resources for links to available resources for storing your portfolio for free on the Web.

You can store your electronic portfolio on Regent's Blackboard Web server until you graduate. You can set your preferences to allow only specific perons to view your portfolio, or you can set it to make it available to those searching for you on the Internet. There is much more information about storing your ePortfolio in the Storing Your ePortfolio section.
