Summer Deployments

The First Response Trauma Team deployed to Nicaragua this summer. Under the supervision of Dr. Benjamin Keyes and Dr. Merrill Reese, the team had the opportunity to work with trauma victims providing crisis counseling, group counseling, and offering training workshops for local mental health professionals. The Lord provided this opportunity through Open Eyes Ministries, a Christian organization dedicated to showing the love of Christ to children and families by providing for their physical and spiritual needs.

The team was invited by the Smiles Foundation to work with gypsy and homeless populations in Cihei, an area known for high levels of domestic violence, sexual trauma, alcoholism and poverty. The trauma team will train Smiles Foundation staff and community leaders to respond to these crisis situations.
