Steps to Financial Aid

Step 1: Complete the FAFSA

(This must be completed prior to Step 2.)
Obtain your FAFSA PIN at www.pin.ed.gov link opens in a new window. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov link opens in a new window and enter Regent's School Code, which is 030913.

Visit Genisys for Steps 2 & 4:

  • Go to Genisys.
  • Click the "Login to Genisys" link.
  • Enter your Student ID and Pin.
  • - OR -
  • Go to MyRegent.
  • Enter your Username and Password.
  • Click on the Genisys link at the top.

Central Financial Aid will send your Student ID and PIN once by mail once your FAFSA is received. If you are unable to access Genisys, contact the HelpDesk at 757-352-4076 or helpdesk@regent.edu.


Step 2: Document Requirements

(Must be completed prior to Step 3.)

Click on:

  • Financial Aid
  • Eligibility
  • Financial Aid Requirements
  • Select Aid Year


Step 3: Packaged for Federal Aid

(Must be completed prior to Step 4.)
Your Financial Aid Counselor will package you for any eligible Federal aid.


Step 4: Accept Financial Aid Awards

(Must be completed prior to Step 5.)

Click on:

  • Financial Aid
  • Award
  • Award for Aid Year
  • Select Aid Year
  • Accept Award Offer tab


Step 5: Certification of Loans

(Must be completed prior to Step 6.)
Your Financial Aid Counselor will certify the loans you selected in Genisys and submit them to your lender. Also complete Step 2 again to ensure that additional information or documents are not required.


Step 6: Complete Promissory Notes

(Must be completed prior to Step 7.)
Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for loans if you are a first-time Regent borrower or if you have changed lenders. You must complete a promissory note each academic year, if you are requesting a private loan. You should receive them from your lender. Immediately submit the promissory notes back to your lender.


Step 7: Receive E-mail of Loan Fund Arrival

The Central Financial Aid Office sends out an e-mail notification once loan funds have arrived. Please verify that your e-mail address is accurate in Genisys. Confirm that all requirements have been met in the “Student Requirements” page in Genisys.


Step 8: Refund from the Business Office

Student loan refunds are sent on/after the first day of class if the student has registered for classes at least one week prior to the start of classes and have completed the loan process and the loan funds have arrived one week prior to the start of classes. A student may only receive a refund check if the student requested loan funds in excess of tuition and fees.

View Your Billing Account Summary:
